Last July, Blake Nelson suffered a severe spinal cord injury in a swimming accident. Now, there’s a benefit to help Blake’s family with medical bills set for mid-April.

June Colson shared Blake’s story with us.

Blake Nelson, a native of Bowling Green and Junior at Murray State University, was injured in a swimming pool diving accident in July of 2017, when he was just 21 years old. He suffered a severe spinal cord injury,  which has left him paralyzed, unable to move arms or legs. He spent a month in Nashville after his cervical spinal fusion. Blake then spent 2 months at one of the best spinal core rehabilitation facilities in the our region, Shepherd Spinal Rehab Center in Atlanta. He is living back in Bowling Green, and continues therapy at SKY rehab, but they are limited in what they can offer him.  He hopes to return Shepherd for more therapy, as he has just begun this journey with hopes of regaining back some movement.

Modern Woodmen have organized a fundraiser for Blake at Plum Springs Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Saturday, April 14 from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be food, a raffle, a bake sale and lots of children’s activities.
