Lauren Daigle’s “You Say” spends its 62nd week at number 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Christian Songs chart. It has officially broken the record for the longest reign since the survey began in 2003.
The song passes Hillsong United’s “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail),” which previously held the record for 61 weeks in 2013.
According to Billboard, “I really pondered the journey of the song ‘Oceans,’ and I remember seeing the impact that song made on so many people. It was just so beautiful to me,” Daigle tells Billboard. “I hoped that I could be a part of something that shakes the earth like that song. I didn’t know that would ever happen, and I had no idea that ‘You Say’ would be something that would parallel the life of ‘Oceans.’ ”
“The fan stories have made ‘You Say’ all the more rich,” Daigle says. “It was the first song we wrote after How Can It Be, when I was unsure and insecure in myself. From a writing perspective, I was feeling rusty, and ‘You Say’ was the song that made me feel like we were back on track.
“Knowing that it has connected to so many people is an amazing feeling.”
